Adjusting my thoughts

I often begin my meditations by aligning my thoughts — setting a clear inner intention or reminding myself of the state I want to maintain. But this raises a deeper question: Why only then? Why limit this mental alignment to just the beginning of meditation? Why not strive to maintain it throughout the day?

Think of it like driving a car. When you set off on a journey, you don’t simply point the steering wheel in the direction of your destination once and expect to arrive there without any further effort. You’re constantly adjusting — tiny shifts left and right — to stay in your lane, to stay on course. You don’t complain about it or find it exhausting. It becomes second nature. Often, you don’t even realise you’re doing it. Your body takes care of the alignment while your mind is engaged elsewhere — maybe chatting with someone or listening to music — and yet you still stay safely on the road.

This is how the practice of soul consciousness and meditation can work as well. At first, it takes conscious effort — you deliberately bring your awareness back, again and again. But with time, it becomes a habit. You no longer have to “try” so hard; the subtle adjustments begin to happen automatically. You carry that awareness more naturally, even while engaged in your daily activities.

The key is consistency and patience: start by creating the habit, and then gently correct your course whenever you notice you've drifted. Over time, this repeated inner alignment builds strength, clarity, and confidence — until eventually, it feels effortless and ever-present.
