Predestination - do it or don’t do it

The idea of moving backwards and forwards through time isn’t new—Hollywood has long explored it through films like The 13th Floor, Predestination, and Looper. These stories often hinge on the seductive premise that, by returning to a pivotal moment in the past and altering it, we can reshape the future for the better. But while fiction imagines time travel as a solution, reality shows us that even staying grounded in the present is a challenge for many.

Still, there's value in the metaphor. The concept of hindsight—learning from the past—is a powerful, though often underutilized tool in shaping our future. How well do we as individuals or societies truly integrate past lessons into present choices?

Fortunately, we are not without internal resources. Willpower, discernment, memory, reflection, and judgement all give us the capacity to pivot—to choose better responses, make wiser decisions, and direct our lives more intentionally. Every choice we make is the product of complex internal calculations: past experiences, current realities, future hopes. Improvement is always an option—change is always within reach.

There are countless stories of people who have transformed themselves, rising from adversity through sheer inner strength. In nearly every case, it’s not luck or external circumstance but character, willpower, resolve, and clarity that drives them forward. The old saying "fortune favours the bold" rings true here, not because boldness guarantees success, but because it generates momentum, action, and learning.

On the other hand, thoughts like “I can’t do this,” or “Things never work out for me,” create a self-fulfilling loop of inaction and defeat. Such thinking is not just limiting, it’s a form of mental predestination. Whether bold or hesitant, confident or fearful, both mindsets shape the path ahead by predisposing us to act or not act in certain ways.

In the end, it’s action that determines outcome. We may not be able to travel through time, but we are always shaping the future—right here, in the present with the choices we make.
